Have you ever come across a drawing with an applied coordinate system that does not match the one you need to work with? A common mistake is to just change the coordinate system of the drawing. This will not work as every coordinate system applies calculations where every X and Y coordinate of our drawing corresponds to a specific Latitude and Longitude. By just changing the applied coordinate system, we do not change the placement of our drawing objects, so they will be misplaced.
Fortunately, with the help of Plex-Earth tools, there is a trick that can be applied to achieve the desired change in the coordinate system with just a few steps.
Step 1: Check the Applied Coordinate System
We click on the Georeference button of Plex-Earth to check the applied Coordinate System. As soon as we confirm this is not the one we want to work with, we proceed to the next Step.
If the drawing is not georeferenced, check how you can apply Georeferencing: Custom Georeference
Step 2: Export your drawing to Google Earth
We select the drawing objects and then proceed to export them as KML/KMZ to Google Earth.
We save the KML/KMZ folder we created.
Step 3: Create a New Drawing and Apply the Coordinate System you want
Create a new empty drawing. Select Set Georeference and apply the coordinate system you want. Make sure that the coordinate system applied is suitable for your project area.

Step 4: Import your KML to the New Drawing
On the drawing created in Step 4, use the Import KML/KMZ command of Plex-Earth, and import the file created in Step 2. Now your drawing is ready with the desired coordinate system applied.
We hope that you have found this tutorial on how to change the coordinate system of your drawing, helpful. Feel free to contact us at support@plexscape.com for any questions you may still have.
