1. Adding a Web Mapping Service (WMS)
When using the Map Explorer you can directly connect to Bing Maps, OpenStreetMap or a variety of selected base maps through the Map Collection. But you can also connect to any WMS or Tile Server containing information that is useful to you and view it on its own or overlay it on any existing map. Here is how:
1. Adding a Web Mapping Service (WMS)
Step 1: Select Add Content -> Web Map Service (WMS) from the Map Explorer window
Step 2: Specify the server name and account information
In the pop-up window that will appear, fill in the URL of the WMS Server that you would like to connect to. You can also directly customize the request by entering parameters, as shown in Example 2.
If the server requires you to log in to access information, you can configure your username and password in the "Account" section.
Step 3: Select the WMS Layers that interest you
A list of all available layers will appear on the left. Selecting any of them will add them to the list on the right, which represents all the layers that will be imported. You can see more information about each one by clicking on it.
You can also define the appearance of the imported layers here.
Step 4: The selected layers appear in the Map Explorer
All the selected layers will now appear in the contents list, on the left of the Map Explorer window. If you have overlayed them on a existing map (Bing Maps in this example), you will need to move them on top of it (higher in the contents list) in order to display the contained data.
You can now use any image importing function to bring this information into your AutoCAD drawing. Images will be captured exactly as displayed in the Map Explorer.
2. Adding a Tile Server
Step 1: Select Add Content -> Tile Server from the Map Explorer window
Step 2: Specify the Tile Server URL
In the pop-up that will appear, go to the "Tile Server" tab and enter the URL of the tile server. Please use the format shown in the example.
Step 3: Name the new map
If you now switch to the "General" tab, you will be able to preview and name the new map, as well as enter account credentials, if required.
Step 4: The new map will appear in the Map Explorer
You can now navigate through it and bring in imagery into your drawing by using any of the Map Explorer importing functions.
