How to Copy and Split Tiles from an Imagery Mosaic

Introduction

Two very useful tools that can help you streamline your Imagery Mosaic Tiles are "Copy" and "Split", and are introduced in Plex-Earth 2026. These tools are very valuable, especially for dealing with large scale Imagery Mosaics, and can help you manage them in the best way possible!

To use these tools, you will have to create an Imagery Mosaic first. Then, you can see how you can use the tools by following the processes below:

Tool 1: Copy Imagery Mosaic Tiles

With "Copy" Imagery Mosaic Tiles, you can copy selected tiles from an existing mosaic and duplicate them to a newly created one. To do this, you can follow this procedure:

  • Go to the Collection Manager, locate the Mosaic you want to copy tiles from, and click on "Edit".

  • Then, the following menu will appear, where you will see the button "Copy".

  • Select the preferred tiles you want to copy to another Mosaic.

  • The selected tiles will appear with a red color.

  • After you select the tiles, click on "Copy".

📝 Note: In case you want to copy the whole Mosaic, click directly on "Copy", without selecting any tiles first.
  • Then, you will be prompted to select the Provider. Select it and click "Next".

  • Then, select your preferred Dataset, and click "Accept".

  • Then, name your new Mosaic, and click "Accept".

  • Then, you will be asked to choose whether you prefer to fetch your copied tiles now or not.

  • Your new copied Mosaic is ready.

Tool 2: Split Imagery Mosaic Tiles

With "Split" Imagery Mosaic Tiles, you can split selected tiles from an existing mosaic and move them to a newly created one. To do this, you can follow this procedure:

  • Go to the Collection Manager, locate the Mosaic you want to split, and click on "Edit".

  • Then, the following menu will appear, where you will see the button "Split".

  • Select the preferred tiles you want to split into another Mosaic.

  • The selected tiles will appear with a red color.

  • After you select the tiles, click on "Split".

  • Then, name your new Mosaic, and click "Accept".

  • After that, you will receive the following message. Choose whether you'd like to open the editor to review and modify the mosaic or not.

  • The final result is ready! The initial Mosaic is now split! You can see that both from the Collection Manager, and from your drawing space.

Also, if you want to insert your Plex-Earth Imagery Mosaics as Rasters and save them locally to your Hard Drive, you can use this tutorial.

📝 Note: Both the "Copy" and "Split" tools can also work without having fetched the tiles in the initial Mosaic. Therefore, you have the option to use these tools with unfetched mosaic tiles and then proceed with the fetching procedure. If you don't want to fetch the tiles of a Mosaic right away, you can choose the option "Edit Tile Selection", during the process of creating a Mosaic. Edit Tile Selection.png
