Learn how to specify the Georeference Settings of your Drawing
Plex-Earth offers the ability to import high-quality, up-to-date imagery from the best providers in the field and generate digital terrain models in a blink of an eye into CAD drawings.
Therefore, georeferencing, i.e. the process of adding geographic information to the drawings, is mandatory in order for the software to know where to place the various images and to relate the aerial and satellite imagery to the various design data and local surveys.
Generally speaking, defining a coordinate system is very important in design - for processing spatial data, calculating distances and areas, and for determining various types of information about any given project area.
Adjusting the georeference settings of a drawing with Plex-Earth is a rather simple and easy process. All you need to do is click on the Georeference icon on the "Project" panel.
There are three ways to georeference a drawing:
- By Defining a Coordinate System. This is ideal when a drawing starts from scratch or when a design is already based on a specific Coordinate System.
- By Creating a Custom Georeference. This is ideal for existing drawings that were designed on random coordinates in AutoCAD (or BricsCAD) and we want to associate a point with an actual georeference point.
- By using CAD's command for Georeference (like "GEO" in AutoCAD). In this case, Plex-Earth automatically identifies the georeference settings applied and there is no need for further action.
For non-georeferenced blank drawings, if a user knows where his area of interest is located in Google Earth, he can associate a point in Google Earth by creating a placemark, and Plex-Earth, by using this as a reference element, automatically defines the georeference settings. Here, you can see how to quickly georeference blank drawings.
In the above tutorials, all the necessary information is provided for defining the coordinate system of a drawing.
As georeferencing is mandatory in order to use Plex-Earth, this is the first thing that must be done, before using any of the software’s other features.
