Why use a Point of Interest (POI)?
Point of Interest (POI) is a new functionality implemented in Plex-Earth, which helps you gather available contextual data for specific points of interest in your design, like buildings, crossroads, etc, at the same place. The Point of Interest (POI) tool is for you if you need to pinpoint multiple small areas or point-sized areas in your drawing and explore their conditions and evolution through time.
Create and Edit a Point of Interest (POI)
1) Georeference and POI Creation
Apply the appropriate coordinate system for your site area, as described here. If you start without applying a georeference, you will be prompted to apply one before proceeding.
Access the respective command from the Plex-Earth ribbon, under the Quick Site View button.
2) Define your POI
Then, you need to specify your point. You can do it by:
- Using a Lat/Long
- Copy and Paste a Placemark from Google Earth
- Specify a Point in the Drawing
- Specify Multiple Points in the Drawing (this will create multiple POIs)
After picking your point, you will be prompted to give it a name. You can use the automated one (POI 1, 2, 3 4, etc), one of your choice, or pick its address.
After this step, a preview is loaded, your POI is created with a yellow placemark, and the POI editor opens.
3) POI Editor
POI Editor has two parts: the up one (red) with editing tools for the Site Area and the down one (green), which contains multiple tabs to acquire data for your site. In this part, we will explain the Editing tools. The second part will be explained in the Point of Interest Data part.
Let's analyze the Editing Tools:
Name
- On the Top Left Corner, the name of the POI appears.
General Editor Tools
- T: Rename POI
- Bin: Delete POI
- X: Close POI Editor
POI Tools
- Hide/Show: Hide or Show POI
- Zoom: Zoom to POI
- Send to Back/Bring to Front: Adjust the draw order of the POI

4) POI List
The POI will appear on the POI list of the collection manager. We can have multiple POIs on this list.
Let's explain the POI List tools.

- Select Object: Select the selected(s) site area as a drawing object in the drawing
- Bin: Delete the selected(s) site area
Specific POI Tools
These tools apply to each POI
- Hide/Show: Hide or Show POI
- Zoom: Zoom to POI
- Send to Back/Bring to Front: Adjust the draw order of the POI
- Lock: When locked, the POI auto-restores when the drawing opens and Plex-Earth starts. When unlocked, it disables auto-restore.

Point of Interest Data
There are two available tabs in the POI editing window:
- Explorer Tab
- Historical Tab
1) Explorer Tab
In this tab, you will find the following info:
- Lat/Long: the geographical coordinates of your POI
- Address: the address of your POI
- Change: Change the lat/long and move your POI
- Recent Imagery info: information about the most recent imagery available on our data (provider, date, time). You can access it in the Historical Tab.
- Premium Imagery info: In case premium imagery is available for your area, you will see the available providers here. You can access them from Site Area or by Creating a Mosaic.
2) Historical Tab
In this tab, you can access historical datasets from Airbus and Maxar to check how your POI evolves over time and monitor changes.
The orange button will fetch the most recent dataset available, but you can pick the Find more dates button if you need another date.
The dataset fetched will appear under the historical tab.
You can choose the Add Date button to add more dates from the dataset list.
Then, all the dates picked will appear in a list. Click on any of them to view it.
