Introduction
When it comes to design projects, the more information about a job site that you have, the better decisions you make to provide an accurate understanding of the situation.
One of the most efficient things to do is to georeference a drawing in order to assign real-world coordinates to it. This may allow a designer to notice potential issues before they arise and avoid costly rework.
Georeferencing is a prerequisite for exploring any other features of Plex-Earth Lite. This process ensures that the drawing is accurately overlaid with existing spatial data without skewing its geometry.
Don't know the coordinate system for your project? Try our custom georeference tool, Quick Georeference, by browsing the tutorial here.
NOTE: If you already have a georeferenced drawing through the GEO command of AutoCAD, you will not need to do anything as Plex-Earth automatically recognizes the applied coordinate system. You can check this by clicking on the Set Georeference button. The built-in coordinates will be displayed as shown. If you don't want to work with the current coordinate system, click on Change Georeference Method, to apply a georeferencing system with Plex-Earth. |
Let's get started!
Go to the Plex-Earth Lite ribbon and on the Project panel, click on Set Georeference. Alternatively, you may type PXV_GEO in the command line.
Plex-Earth will ask you where your project is located and we choose Use a Coordinate System.
Click on the grid button to proceed with specifying the coordinate system.
Select the country or region, coordinate system, and units, then click on the SELECT button at the bottom.
NOTE: Plex-Earth supports over 3,000 coordinate systems worldwide. In a rare case where a system is not included in the list, please send us an email at support@plexscape.com, with its definition or EPSG code and we will add it for you. |
Afterward, the selected coordinate system will be displayed as shown below.
If no changes are required, click on OK, and the drawing is now georeferenced.
Automatic Correction
If you are already working on an existing drawing, there are cases where there will be slight misalignments between the drawing and the coordinates. Plex-Earth has a feature to correct these discrepancies by setting an automatic displacement.
Click on the button below as shown, to proceed.
After clicking on it, you will need to specify a source point and a destination point in your drawing. After that, the correction in dx & dy terms will be displayed, as shown below. If you do not want to make any further changes, just click OK.
You can also clear the displacement by clicking on the dx, dy values, then click on "Clear" in the command line of CAD.
After finishing the georeferencing process, you are now ready to explore all the new features Plex-Earth Lite offers.
We hope that you have found this tutorial on how to georeference using a coordinate system with Plex-Earth Lite, helpful. Feel free to contact us at support@plexscape.com for any questions you may still have.
