Introduction
Plex-Earth offers several features to maximize efficiency and let one work with accuracy whilst having the most convenient options available for him through customization. We want to exhibit this by offering a custom georeferencing system to quickly associate any drawing with the real world. Georeferencing, which is the process of adding geographic information to drawings, is a prerequisite for using any other feature of Plex-Earth.
There are cases where an existing drawing has been drafted without taking into consideration any georeference system, or where it is unknown. Instead of completely redrafting a drawing from scratch, what can be done then is to associate a point in the AutoCAD or BricsCAD drawing with a point in Google Earth or with known coordinates, by utilizing a feature called Quick Georeference.
Already know the coordinate system for your georeference? Browse the tutorial to georeference your drawing by choosing a coordinate system.
Define Quick Georeference
To use this tool, go to the Plex-Earth ribbon and click on "Set Georeference" in the Project panel. Alternatively, type PXV_GEO in the command line.
A window will pop up to ask where the project is located. Two options will be displayed, Quick Georeference and Coordinate System. Select "Use Quick Georeference".
First, specify the geographic location of a known point in the drawing by clicking on the button highlighted below.
Either type the latitude/longitude data of the known point by clicking ENTER VALUES, or just copy and paste the location data from Google Earth by choosing PASTE LOCATION FROM GOOGLE EARTH.
To copy the location data from Google Earth, follow the steps below:
- Locate a point in the said project on Google Earth.
- Create a placemark on the point, then right-click >> Copy.
- Go to Plex-Earth and click on PASTE LOCATION FROM GOOGLE EARTH. Plex-Earth will automatically get the coordinates from the clipboard. If this option has been chosen but no data is copied, Plex-Earth will display a dialog box as a notification.
NOTE: if you choose to enter values directly keep in mind that only lat/long values in degrees are recognized. |
After this is done, specify the point on the drawing that corresponds to the point where the placemark was placed by clicking on the button shown below, and then click on the corresponding point on the drawing.
Select the unit of measurement, click on OK to finalize, and the drawing is now georeferenced.
After finishing the georeferencing process, you are now ready to explore all the stunning features that Plex-Earth offers.
