Learn how to quickly georeference a blank drawing using Plex-Earth 2026 by copying a placemark, polygon, or path from Google Earth and pasting it into AutoCAD/Civil 3D (Ctrl+V). There are also alternative methods of georeferencing a blank drawing - by choosing a coordinate system or applying a custom georeference.
Can I correctly place my project on a georeferenced but blank drawing?
Yes. Plex-Earth allows you to quickly georeference a blank drawing using a location from Google Earth, so you can start working in the correct real-world position right away.
Quickly Georeference a Blank Drawing
The quick georeference method works by copying a Google Earth object (such as a placemark, polygon, or path) and pasting it directly into CAD.
First, locate your location in Google Earth and create either a placemark, path, or polygon.
Right click on the element → Copy.
In CAD, simply paste (Ctrl+V) it.
To confirm that the drawing is now georeferenced, go to the Plex-Earth ribbon → Project panel → Assign Georeference.
Check the following video describing the process.
Alternative Methods on Georeferencing a Blank Drawing
Option 1. By Choosing a Coordinate System
To georeference a blank drawing by selecting a coordinate system, go to Plex-Earth ribbon → Project panel → Assign Georeference → By Coordinate System → select the country, coordinate system, and units → Accept. Check out this tutorial for a full guide: Choose a Coordinate System
To insert a reference starting point in your drawing, create a placemark for your area in Google Earth → right-click → copy. Then, paste it in CAD.
Option 2. By Applying a Custom Georeference
To georeference a blank drawing by applying a custom georeference, go to Plex-Earth ribbon → Project panel → Assign Georeference → By Geographic Location (Custom Georeference) → type/paste the Lat, Long → Accept → By Origin. Check out this tutorial for a full guide: Create Custom Georeference
