Applies to: any Plex-Earth version Audience: End users, IT Managers
Overview
A clean installation removes all Plex-Earth files, settings, and traces from previous versions before reinstalling. This is recommended when:
- You are experiencing persistent issues that standard troubleshooting has not resolved
- You are upgrading from an older version and want to ensure no conflicting files remain
- You have been asked by our support team to perform a clean reinstall
💡 Just need to uninstall? Follow Steps 1–5 only and stop there. Steps 6 and 7 cover the reinstallation.
⚠️ Before you begin: Make sure CAD is fully closed before starting. Having CAD open during this process may prevent some files from being deleted correctly.
Step 1: Uninstall Plex-Earth from Windows
From Control Panel:
- Open Control Panel → Programs → Uninstall a Program
- Search for Plex in the list
- Uninstall every Plex-Earth version currently installed on your workstation
From Windows Settings:
- Open Settings → Apps → Installed Apps
- Search for Plex
- Click the three dots next to each Plex-Earth entry and select Uninstall
⚠️ Make sure to uninstall all Plex-Earth versions, not just the most recent one. Leftover installations from older versions are a common cause of persistent issues.
Step 2: Unload Plex-Earth from CAD
Open AutoCAD or BricsCAD
Type
CUIin the command lineGo to Partial Customization Files
Find and unload any Plex-Earth entries listed there
Close CAD
Step 3: Remove Plex-Earth .cuix Files (Autodesk Only)
- Close CAD if it is still open
- Open File Explorer and navigate to:
%appdata%\Autodesk
- Open the folder for your CAD product and version, for example:
C:\Users\User\AppData\Roaming\Autodesk\AutoCAD 202X\R2x.0\enu
- Find and delete all Plex-Earth
.cuixfiles, such as:pxearth25-r0.cuixpxearth26-r1.cuix- Any other Plex-Earth
.cuixfiles
⚠️ The
.cuixfile location differs depending on your CAD product (AutoCAD, Civil 3D, etc.) and version year. If you use multiple CAD versions, repeat this step for each one.
Step 4: Delete Plex-Earth Program Files
In the Windows Search bar on your taskbar, type each of the following addresses one at a time and press Enter. In each location, search for any Plex-Earth or Plexscape files or folders and delete them:
%ProgramData%%ProgramData%\Autodesk\ApplicationPlugins%appdata%%appdata%\plexscape\Plex-Earth%programfiles%%programfiles(x86)%
💡 Tip: In each location, type Plex in the File Explorer search bar to quickly surface all relevant files and folders.
Step 5: Delete Temporary Files
- In the Windows Search bar, type
%temp%and press Enter - Select all files in the folder and delete them
- Repeat with
temp(without the % signs)
ℹ️ Windows may show errors when deleting some files — this is normal. Skip any files that cannot be deleted, as they are likely in use by Windows or another running application.
✅ If you only need to uninstall Plex-Earth, you can stop here. Steps 1–5 constitute a complete uninstallation. No further action is required.
Step 6: Download and Install the Latest Plex-Earth Version
Download the latest Plex-Earth version from the download page: https://plexearth.com/download
If you need to install a specific older version, you can find all available download links here: Plex-Earth Download Links and Compatibility
⚠️ Make sure you are downloading the version that matches your license key. Installing the wrong version will result in an activation error. If you are unsure which version your license is for, check your purchase email or the Plex-Earth Console.
Step 7: Open CAD and Verify
- Open your CAD application
- Confirm that the Plex-Earth ribbon appears correctly
- Sign in and verify that Plex-Earth is working as expected
If the ribbon does not appear after a clean installation, see: Plex-Earth Ribbon Missing, Empty, or Not Working

FAQs
Do I need to perform a clean installation every time I update Plex-Earth?
No. A clean installation is only needed when you are experiencing persistent issues, when upgrading from a significantly older version, or when specifically instructed by our support team. For routine updates, simply uninstall the current version and install the new one.
Will a clean installation delete my drawings or project files?
No. The clean installation process only removes Plex-Earth program files, settings, and CAD customization files. Your CAD drawings and project files are not affected.
I skipped one of the steps. Will the clean installation still work?
Each step targets a different location where Plex-Earth files may be stored. Skipping a step may leave residual files that cause the same issue to persist. We recommend completing all steps in order for the best result.
I use multiple CAD versions. Do I need to repeat any steps?
Yes. Step 3 (removing .cuix files) must be repeated for
each CAD product and version you have installed, as each one stores its
own customization files separately. Steps 1, 4, and 5 only need to be
completed once.
How do I know which Plex-Earth version my license is for?
Check your original purchase email or invoice, which will show the version you purchased. You can also log in to the Plex-Earth Console and check the subscription name on your dashboard. The version number is indicated in the subscription name (e.g. Plex-Earth 2026).
I performed a clean installation but the ribbon still doesn't appear. What should I do?
Follow the dedicated ribbon troubleshooting guide: Plex-Earth Ribbon Missing, Empty, or Not Working. If the issue persists after working through that guide, contact our support team with your log files.
